Tallinn, Estonia - Saturday 27th May to Tuesday 6th June Sitting down to write this post, it feels like we arrived in Tallinn weeks ago. I first heard of the Estonian capital when my parents, sister and brother-in-law visited some years ago. Since then, it's always been on my 'list', but for no other reason than that it's there. In some ways that's really much of what travel is: to see for the sake of seeing. It is possible to read a book, or people watch, or enjoy a coffee anywhere, but … [Read more...] about Week Eleven Roundup: Our Take on Tallinn
Ok, so this week's alliterative title is a weak one, I know. But bear with me... We're mid-way through the Baltic leg of the trip, and we've spent a lot of time on the water. Like Beavers. Or something. LĪGATNE, LATVIA – SATURDAY 20TH MAY TO MONDAY 22ND MAY Having been in Līgatne for a few days now we'd settled into a fairly relaxed pace. So, on Saturday we decided to drive out and see some of the local geological attractions. The Gauja river is peppered with sandstone outcrops, cliffs … [Read more...] about Week Ten Roundup: Baltic Beavers
Riga, Latvia - Saturday 13th May to Tuesday 16th May We made our way into Latvia in the time honoured, Baltic way: Lux Express. The Baltics may not have the greatest and most extensive railway network, but their coaches are top notch. Seat-back entertainment, free tea/coffee, and a loo. Lux indeed. The other great thing about coach travel is that it's reliably cheap. Vilnius to Riga for £11.75 each. Arriving into Riga we had a bit of a palaver finding the way to our accommodation, but … [Read more...] about Week Nine Roundup: Loving Latvia
As the saying goes, 'You have the same number of hours in the day as Beyonce'. Admittedly, we may not have the vocal talent or the pushy parenting that she experienced, but I really like this quote. But how EXACTLY can you plan and reach your Goals? Keep reading for a step by step guide and a free planning sheet. Its a stark reminder that we all get the same 1,440 minutes every single day. And what makes us all different is how we choose to spend that time. After my 33rd birthday last … [Read more...] about Create Your Best Year Ever!
Poznań - Friday 5th to Monday 8th May Almost as soon as we were across the Oder River we could feel the change from West to East. We had made it to Poland - unbelievably, only the fifth country on our journey. The passing landscape felt almost like a parody of the Eastern Bloc; dilapidated buildings and wooden railway water towers offset by modern Ford Focuses and the occasional Audi - the most obvious signs that we were no longer in Soviet times. Arriving into Poznań, we hailed a cab to … [Read more...] about Week Eight Roundup: Eastern Europe Express
Berlin - Saturday 29th April to Friday 4th May We stepped onto the Ferry in Rønne, Bornholm, and questioned that we were in the right place. It was totally deserted, and the ferry was due to leave in twenty five minutes. We settled into the upstairs lounge, after spotting two fellow ferry-goers, and waited. Suddenly, at just before 9am, there was an influx of people and we were underway. Only twelve more hours to Berlin! We drew in to Sassnitz, on the German Baltic coast, to discover … [Read more...] about Week Seven Roundup: Berlin or Bust
